Day 5.

Today’s writing prompt is “What’s your elevator pitch”.

…………………………I really don’t have an elevator pitch.

Apparently LYL mean by “elevator pitch”, what are you excited about? What are you building or want to build? What do you care about…..

I’ve read Simon Sinek’s Start With Why book, it’s very good. As is his interview with Scott Dinsmore which you can watch here.

The problem is that too many things excite me! I care about a heap of issues.

There are so many things I love doing.

I love taking and working on photographs. I love travelling. I love good food and fine wine, and craft beer. I love learning about things. I like learning new skills like speaking new languages or drawing. I love listening to good music, watching entertaining films, interesting shows.

Hmmmmm… not the best elevator pitch so far….

What kind of world do I want to live in?

I think the world would be a better place if everyone chilled out and accepted others a bit more. Were more compassionate and understanding.

I think the world would be a better place if they focused on the good in their lives, and how short their life could be. Not in a morbid way, but you know, stopped wasting as much time. Didn’t commit to doing things, just because they think they felt they had to.

I get frustrated by people who go to work, do the least amount possible, coasting, focusing on the pension or some random benefit that they may never get to enjoy.

I’ve been asking my friends recently what they want to do with their lives.  The results are pretty disappointing.

They range from “nothing really” to “retire” and a bit in between.

Retirement really isn’t a goal of mine. Maybe it’s because I’ve been fortunate to take some time out. I know what it’s like to have free time.  It’s a gift but you also need to have something to fill it.  Not having work, even when you don’t have to worry about money, not having to work isn’t all fun and games.  Work for most people provides a social network and a reason to get up in the morning.  A lot of people who retire, especially men it turns out, end up dying within a year or two of retiring. No thank you ma’am!

Time is a finite resource. I think people squander it far too easily, and abuse it too.

I feel pretty passionate about people making the most of their lives, doing the things they really want to do, making the most of their potential.  Do I want to be a life coach?  I think I need one myself!

I feel passionate about being positive and how we should make the most of the tools available to use our time in the best and most productive way possible. I think 9-5 is broken. I hate the hours culture. I think people should make more of an effort to get out of work on time. I think permanent jobs are overrated and don’t think that people should stay in them just because of the pension.

I’m lucky. I enjoy parts of my job. I don’t hate it like a lot of people do.

Why? Because, I hate to sound like a broken record, but life is short.

We have a limited time to spend on earth, let’s use it well. We’re all doing the best we can, (I hear you Brene). Let’s focus on creating the world we want to live in, rather than accepting an unsatisfying status quo.

I need to work on my elevator pitch, but it’s a work in progress, right now, there are better ways to spend my time.
