Finding Meaning in the Future

I’ve always been fascinated by the future.

Yuval Harari’s Homo Deus is a fascinating book if you’re interested in what the next generations of humanity might look like.

I also stumbled across this interview with Elon Musk from earlier this year. I love how this guy thinks, (read Ashlee Vance’s Elon Musk: How the Billionaire CEO of Space X and Tesla is Shaping our Future if you want to learn more). The dude is a legend:

I’ve been thinking a lot about where and on what to focus my energy on right now.

Working for a company that has an inspirational mission and values that are aligned with yours is important, so is working on something that helps the human race in some way.

I’m a big Simon Sinek fan. Leaders Eat Last and Start with Why are both worth reading. I’ve been lucky to have worked for a few large organisations. Many are great companies, some better organised than others.  I do think that some of them could do a better job at strategising and setting their priorities though. (They should read Greg McKeown’s Essentialism).

It’s pretty uninspiring when the company’s main objective seems to be purely beating the competition’s numbers. It’s not the most motivating or meaningful goal. It also reminded me of this great talk by Simon Sinek.
